I will start out this Love Post by saying that I volunteered to do this episode not because it is a personal favorite, but because no one else had taken it (and I thinkstunt_muppet  already has enough to look after without having to pick up all the un-taken episodes).  I really disliked Part 3 of this story when I first saw it on my Lost in Time DVD, and mused that the BBC may have made a mistake in not succeeding in burninating it along with the rest of the story.  In my opinion, Polly in particular was very ill-served by the script, which shows her and Ben uncharacteristically reacting to things but never taking control.  It was at times, actually painful to watch, especially coming hard upon the heels of The Highlanders and all the awesomeness contained therein.  However upon seeing the reconstruction, and the love and effort put into it, I have changed my mind.  While I still believe that Part 3 is probably the weakest part of the story, it is much improved by seeing the adventure in its entirety, which is actually quite fun.
That being said, I will do my very best to show my love for Team TARDIS in this adventure.

Now, onto the Post!Collapse )

I was just in my Scrapbook, and realized - I have screencaps for The Tenth Planet, which I did my love post for last month, and I forgot to include them. Oops! To make up for it, here is a small picspam of Ben and Polly love from The War Machines and The Tenth Planet. They're not of incredible quality, but the best I could do from the files I had. :)

The Highlanders is mostly remembered for being Jamie's first ever adventure, though some also think of it fondly as The One Where Polly is Awesomesauce, or The One With Two in Drag. What I like the most about this serial, however, is that I believe this is also the adventure that shows that, although Ben and Polly make a wonderful team, they can be equally amazing when separated from each other.

Sorry for the near-lateness of this post - has been a crazy weekend. But I couldn't let this go by entirely, because The Tenth Planet is a FANTASTIC serial and one that deserves a lot of love as a whole, and especially for Ben and Polly, who are BRILLIANT in it.

Before I go into specifics under the cut, I'll note that the Second Doctor (with Ben and Polly again, and Jamie) story The Moonbase is essentially a re-do of this one, down to a lot of the plot points about the base, the people, etc. And I'd watched The Moonbase first, so you would think that this one would have been less exciting. But I still loved it, which clearly shows that Tenth Planet ? IS AWESOME.

The love, especially for Ben and Polly but also for Cybermen! and our first regeneration! Hugely, completely spoilery, by the wayCollapse )

Okay - over to the rest of you! Can't wait to hear thoughts on this awesome, awesome story.

Hi, all! Sorry about the delay.

Ben and Polly take it on themselves to get in the Doctor's TARDIS and end up joining him in 17th Century England. They meet the local churchwarden, of whom just enough footage remains for him to absolutely break my heart, who gives them some guidance, and then they meet trouble. Lots and lots of trouble. Like, the Doctor gets kidnapped pretty much in public and Ben and Polly get accused of murder. From there, wiki has an in-depth synopsis of the serial. And yes, I do get great joy out of the picture chosen to represent it on the page. =D

The first two parts of this are stronger and more enjoyable than the meandering latter half, but Ben and Polly are great throughout. Since that is, after all, the point of everything, I'm going to focus on some big and small moments alike of theirs that I loved.

Beware of, or enjoy as the case may be, forays into moderately squealy shippiness. And script excerpts, yay!Collapse )

And a picspam because the prospect of a Ben/Polly picspam was way too exciting.Collapse )

*fixed and everything!

Hello, hello, hello all. The love post for The Smugglers is on its way, but in the meanwhile I thought it'd be a good time to open the floor for discussion.

Unfortunately, The Smugglers is missing in its entirety, so we won't have a "rewatch" proper, but the transcript is located here; the BBC photonovel, which includes telesnaps and audio clips, is located here. Further resources can be found on the resource post.

Thoughts? Feelings? Commentary? Still wondering how a serial full of otherwise fairly observant people managed to mistake Polly for a boy for four episodes?

...that the community rewatch-a-thon begins tomorrow, October 5th. As of this posting, The Underwater Menace, on November 9th, and The Faceless Ones, on November 30th, remain unclaimed. I'd be happy to put something up for discussion on those days if no one can take them (no guarantees as to how, ahem, thorough it'll be), but there's still time to sign up!

When you post your content, be sure to include the "ben and polly rewatch-a-thon" tag.

Also, if for whatever reason you have to drop your claim (real life happens to the best of us), just leave a comment on the claims post.

Since it seems there's interest in a community rewatch of Ben and Polly's stories, I'd like to propose that the rewatches begin on Sunday, October 5th, the first Sunday in October. That gives everyone a good ten days from then until now to watch The War Machines; the reaction post will go up on Sunday morning/afternoon, and on Sundays weekly after that.

Now, since there's also interest in the Run of Awesome, I think we can do that concordantly with the rewatch, in that whoever claims a serial can post about it on Rewatch Day, and that can serve as a reaction post as well. So, with that, I open up the floor for claiming!

Just comment here with the serial you want and I'll put your name down. Remember, what you post on your day is all up to you; you can put up a picspam, list your favorite Ben & Polly moments, meta about a particular point, even write episode-tag fic if you'd like.

Let me know if you'd like to claim something, or if you've got any other questions/comments/requests.
